Video- Tying a Pheasant Tail Nymph with Partridge legs

2 No tags Permalink

Here is my version of Pheasant Tail Nymph. It’s a somewhat classic version made on hooks with a long shank, Tiemco has a perfect model for it. The legs are made of partridge, which gives it an extra contrast. Some guys tie the fly as thin as possible, others more bulky. I prefer to make a slightly conical body in the shape of a “carrot”.

So here is the video, I hope you find it useful 🙂

Materials:

  • Hook #12-18 nymph type 2xLong
  • Thread: Sumo 50DEN in A5
  • Weight: Tungsten wire
  • Ribbing: Gold tinsel wire
  • Thorax: Peacock barbs
  • Legs: partridge barbs
  • Back: Pheasant tail feather-the side part which is darker
  • Tail: Pheasant tail barbs tips
  • Body: Pheasant tail barbs – selected those brown ones

Tying tips: for body I always select the red-brownish barbs from the longest rooster feathers ( those long have long barbs and better colored than side feathers or those from young rooster ). I know that these long feathers cost more but they worth spending double

I prefer to use tungsten wire to add weight because provides slimmer bodies and tungsten is not toxic like lead wire.
