Emergers are typically designed to be as minimalist as possible. However, the one presented here is slightly more complex, yet extremely effective. This model is designed to float exceptionally well in stronger currents, where traditional emergers might sink due to fast water. Additionally, this emerger provides an excellent water print that works effectively for both caddis and mayflies. The body is delicate, and the CDC wing ensures good buoyancy and visibility. When tying this fly, it’s important to use high-quality CDC. If a few barbs become loose during the tying process, don’t worry; it’s perfectly fine for them to remain free. This actually enhances the imitation by resembling the legs of the insect.
Materials:
- Hook: Any hook you like, in size #16-20 but on big rivers #14 works well as #12 too
- Body thread: yellow. any you like, I use a flat one ( Champion 8/0 yellow)
- Tying thread: Any olive thread you like because it is needed for ribbing as well , I use Champion 8/0 in olive color
- Wing: Made of natural brown CDC – I recommend you to use the high quality CDC possible, longer than 3cm to be able to form the loop bubble behind thorax.
- Thorax: cdc barbs dubbed on thread or just simple dubbing ( I usually squirrel guard fur dubbed on thread )
Tying tip: Leave the tip of the feather. Do not cut it, you can leave it either longer or shorter. As you like. The tip of the feather helps you see the fly well on the water.
