Sometimes we have take a look back at old classic flies. Lots of modern tiers forgot how nice and efficient are old classic flies. The colors and diversity of the tying materials are blinding our eyes and minds. Lots and lots of complicated flies and pattern are invading our tying tables. With Instagram and Facebook we almost forgot how nice and good are old classic flies. Sitting down in a bed in a Sunday morning I put my hand on an old tying book and I was looking for something to inspire me. In a few weeks I will go in Slovenia and I was looking for a new kind of nymphs to create and test. Then I noticed the classic wet flies like Partridge and Orange and I was struck by an idea: why not a nymph tied like a classic old wet spider?
Spiders are known for their efficiency:
*lot of movement
*nice and clean profile
*easy to be tied
*loved by fish
A nymph with these properties should be a killer! So why not a spider tied on jig hook with a tungsten bead to help the fly to sink fast in the feeding area?.

Hi David,
Thanks for your comment. Yes, frankly these flies are one of the best flies if you fish in strong waters and you need an extra movement 🙂
