La Peute is of French origin and has become known in the fishing world for its efficiency. Recently (a few years ago), I tied this fly in the form of a nymph. Out of curiosity, to see if it is effective. I was surprised by how many fish I caught. Now I do it frequently and it is indispensable in my box
Materials:
- Hook: #12 Demmon DJS 300BL
- Thread: Yellow
- Body Thread: Olive
- Hackle: mallard body feather
- Tungsten in 4mm copper
A few small tricks : yellow thread it will counterbalance the color of the hook. Otherwise, if you make the body from olive thread directly on the hook, when it gets wet it will become very dark in color, almost black. Then make the hackle fixing the tip of the feather and not the base. In this way you will have a nice collar made of nice and delicate barbs.
Another tip is to take out the barbs from one side: you will obtain a nice collar hackle and not one which is too bushy and messy with barbs orientated in all directions…

Congrats Lucian,
you always manage to make “fine wine from water”; I mean and don’t get me wrong; your eclecticism and imagination dusts off an “old, ancient” dressing, transforming it into a very simple and elementary nymph with a devastating, deadly power, undoubtedly like its original version.
The flyfisherman and the various Fly Tyers should cheer you on.
Regards.
