Rusty Orange and Partridge Wet Fly

What all of us know is that the Orange and Partridge wet fly is a time-tested pattern that continues to produce results for anglers. Its striking color, combined with the natural movement provided by the partridge hackle, makes it an excellent choice for various fishing conditions.

My version of this fly has evolved from the traditional model: I made some adjustments long ago by replacing the vivid orange with a rusty orange hue, which I found to be less bright for the waters I typically fish. I can confidently say that this color has proven to be quite effective.

To increase the durability of the fly, I also incorporated wire to secure the body in place. The ribbing created by the wire not only adds to the fly’s structure but seems to increase its effectiveness as well. So, here’s my recipe!

  • Hook: Any model you like in size #12/14/16
  • Body: Terracotta thread 8/0 which lays flat on the hook ( Champion 8/0 -A3 works perfectly well)
  • Ribbing: wire – I use the silver, copper or gold ( sometimes) from Hends
  • Thorax: a few turns made with peacock barb
  • Hackle: Grey partridge in 2 turns.
