Here’s my way of tying a super sparse Purple and Partridge Spider. I use Diamond Body thread (to add more sparkle) for this pattern. I like to make it as sparse as possible because it’s designed for fishing in very slow-running waters. If you enjoy classic English-style casting upstream and across, this is the type of fly that excels in those scenarios.
**Tying Tips:**
- Maintain a clean and slim body.
- Use wax to add grip to your thread and your hackle in the same time.
- Pluck the barbs from one side of the feather to achieve a nice “umbrella” profile.
- Use your rotary vice to make the hackle, it is easy and fun and you will not twist the stem of the feather 🙂
