Fly Tying

Midge flies are highly effective in fly fishing. Here are some reasons why midges are considered great for trout fishing: year-round availability and abundant food source. The tiny black midges are all over, in lakes and in rivers, in winter but in summer, spring, autumn at the same time. These are the main reasons to have some patterns in your fly box.

Here is my version I love : The small black dry fly midge.

• Hook: Maruto D24 or Daiichi 1190 in size 20 but works on size 24
• Thread: 10DEN SUMO Power in black, you can use any thread you like
• Ribbing: Pearl tinsel in uv or pearly type.
• Thorax: black cdc barbs from the base of dyed black cdc feathers
• Wings: Crystal Body Thread – pearl uv
• Antennae: white CDC tips ( from small feathers)
